Muay First Fight is a gripping and intense documentary that follows the journey of Muay Thai fighters as they enter their first professional fight. The documentary was produced by Stony Studio for the Yamasaki Academy and directed by Stony Studio’s own Ronan Ó Conghaile, with myself serving as the technical director and cinematographer.
Filmed over a period of 30 days in Washington DC and Maryland, Muay First Fight provides an in-depth look into the world of Muay Thai and the dedication, hard work, and sacrifice that it takes to compete at the professional level. To capture the essence of this world, I utilized an array of professional lenses and equipment, including the Canon EF 300mm f/2.8 ISL USM, Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM, and EF 135mm f/2L USM Lenses, along with the DeSisti Super Leonardo Lighting system.
As the technical director, I oversaw the post-production process using software such as Avid® Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Adobe After Effects CC, and Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve. With a total of 15 hours of full-frame (35mm) footage at 1080p (1920 × 1080 progressive scan), I was able to craft a seamless and engaging documentary that truly captures the spirit of Muay Thai.
Overall, Muay First Fight is a stunning documentary that showcases the beauty, athleticism, and dedication of Muay Thai fighters. It was an honor to serve as the technical director and cinematographer for this project, and I am proud of the final product that we were able to create at Stony Studio.
